Whether using conventional Photosensitive (PS) plates or advanced Computer-to-Plate (CTP) variants, the latent image created by exposure must be chemically and physically developed to become a durable, print-ready printing plate. This critical development stage is performed by a dedicated processor or developer.
The exposure process—whether through film negatives in vacuum frames for PS plates or direct laser imaging in CTP platesetters—alters the plate's coating chemistry in specific patterns. However, this alteration is not yet visible or robust. The processor renders these patterns permanent through a meticulously controlled sequence: developing to dissolve non-image areas, rinsing to halt development, applying protective gum coating, and thorough drying.
